Each year the Graphic Communications Scholarship Fund of New England awards nearly $100,000 in money to students throughout New England – making it one of the largest scholarship programs of its type anywhere in the country. Awards are usually made in an amount up to a maximum of $2,500 annually. This program was established in 1957 to assist qualified men and women in continuing their education in the graphic arts. The money for these scholarships comes from donations from individuals and graphic arts organizations.
Applying for scholarships
Students competing for scholarships must be residents of New England. They can either be seniors or recent graduates of high school, or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university that offers a certificate or degree related to printing or the graphic arts. Applicants must complete and submit an application form. A copy of the student’s transcript record is also required. Applications are due June 15, 2017.
What it takes to receive a scholarship
Awards are based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, personal qualifications, and financial need. The recipient must be enrolled in an approved college program related to the graphic arts. The scholarships are paid directly to the college for each term the student is enrolled. A student must maintain a 2.5 GPA and submit his or her record to the fund for review each semester. In addition, the student must advise the fund in writing by June 1 each year of the intention to return to college for the following year. Notification of scholarships awards are announced in July.
